Vaginal Jesus
Vaginal Jesus (occasionally abbreviated as VxJx, or V.J.) was a White Power grindcore band originally native to North Branford, CT, that formed in 1988 and disbanded in 2011.
History
Vaginal Jesus initially released the EP "Jesus Saves...His Pennies." on their label Swasticore Records in 1990. Vaginal Jesus changed their label's name to Reich-O-Rama records and released the "Beat Rodney Down" EP in 1993. The Swasticore name was resurrected on Mudoven's Hate demo in 1996.
Vaginal Jesus then relocated to Boston.
In 1995, Mudoven formed as a side-project of guitarist Jim Crow. Crow is the only musician in the band, utilizing his guitar and drum-machine. Mudoven first released their demo in 1995 titled "Hate." Then in 1997, Mudoven signed on to the now-defunct Tri-State Terror Records label, which released the 7-inch EP "Aryan Vs. Alien." The EP cover had photos of Holocaust victims on both the cover and vinyl record. Only 1000 copies were produced, with 800 of them on black vinyl and 200 on white vinyl.
Crow still continued to play with Vaginal Jesus. They would later be featured on an MSR Productions CD compilation titled "Leaderless Resistance." Crow later expressed outrage with MSR Productions for unknown reasons.
Their last release was a compilation titled Affirmative Apartheid in 2000 on Tri-State Terror. This compiled most of their previous recordings with Swasticore and Reich-O-Rama Records. It also included the three tracks from the MSR Productions compilation in addition to many unreleased tracks.
At that point, Tri-State Terror finally went under.
Once Tri-State Terror broke up, Vaginal Jesus was left with no record label.
In 2002, Resistance Records later reissued the Tri-State Terror compilation Affirmative Apartheid before sending it to Unholy Records.
In 2004, Vaginal Jesus finally disbanded.
Mudoven still continues to play and has collaborated with Arghoslent and Greek NSBM band Der Stürmer. Their work has been released on Vinland Wind Records.
Vinland Winds Records is soon to go out of business due to the death of label owner Richard Mills.
Vaginal Jesus and Mudoven were both known for their extremely racist lyrics. Earlier Vaginal Jesus recordings were intended to be anti-Christian and anti-Semitic. On later recordings (particularly Beat Rodney Down), Vaginal Jesus mocked the 1992 Los Angeles Riots following the LAPD's brutality against Rodney King. Crow stated in an interview that it was appropriate to send a pejorative message towards the Black community, as their earlier anti-Semitic lyrics were irrelevant to the time.
In 2011, Vaginal Jesus were to play their first gig (billed as their "first concert in 22 years") at the club Dingbatz in New Jersey, but after Seth Putnam died, Vaginal Jesus pulled out. Depending on what version of the story you believe, either Seth Putnam was Fuckface Chainsaw and VJ couldn't play after Putnam died, or Putnam died and VJ decided to pull out out of respect for him..
In 2011, Affirmative Apartheid was reissued by Deathangle Absolution Records (formerly Satanic Skinhead Propaganda) on CD, with different artwork on the CD and minor corrections to the booklet. The label will reissue it in early 2013 on vinyl. It is currently in the test pressing phase and will be one of the last releases by DAR under the SSP name.
